The Összefogás (Alliance) Rehabilitation Centre in Csömör/Hungary has been working since 25 years, providing employment and homes for people with disabilities. As an organisation which is operating nationwide it has been working continuously during all this time. With its client centric approach it meets the highest European standards, assuring its habitants and workers all premises and conditions to lead their life as normal as possible. The operating costs of our organization have always been covered, at least to a large extent, from state subsidies. But at the beginning of this year everything changed. We used to sign the governmental contracts for the upcoming first half of each year in January – this year we could only sign them in May. Since then we know that we are facing a tremendous challenge this year: retroactive (back to January 2011) we monthly get more than 10 million HUF (ca. 38.000 Euro) less than we used to in the years before. This means that continuing our day-to-day operation is becoming virtually impossible. This also means that the life and future of 614 employees with handicap, 61 employees without handicap, further 120 disabled habitants and 50 disabled people in day care will become completely unstable and insecure. On the other hand we got the promise that the state subsidies will rise again in the second half of this year, and that from the beginning of next year (2012) we will get all the financial support we need for our day-to-day operation. Hence, it looks as though the gap in the funding is only temporary. However, the upcoming period will be the hardest in the life of our institution. To avoid the collapse of our organization, to assure its survival we would like to start a campaign, and we kindly invite you to join us in this: If we are able to find 700 people donating monthly 20,000 HUF (ca. 75 Euro) for 3 months (or 1,400 people with 10,000 HUF ... or 210,000 people with 1 EURO support), we could survive.
